Making your marriage work

We hold on to so many things that cause a great deal of stress and frustration in our relationships, and instead of letting them all go and allowing our relationships to flourish and blossom, we cling on to them. But if you want to live the kind of relationship you’ve always fantasized, you need to give up on all those things that no longer serve you, and embrace change. … More Making your marriage work

The fish who loved a bird

“Marry me”, Chris says during one of their many dates.

Ariyike grins.

Chris pulls out a cute jewelry box from his trousers’ pocket. “I’m serious”, he says.

Ariyike moves closer to him, touches his face, still full of that beautiful grin. He kissed ever so gently. “I didn’t doubt you the first time”, she whispers. She stretches out her fingers and he slides the ring on her middle finger. “I love you”, she says.

He smiles and kisses her again.

“Come with me my love and our fates we will cheat. Come to this enchanted place where the sea and sky meet.”

Ariyike turns around with a smile. It has been almost a month since she’s hoped to run into him again. Since the last time she didn’t meet him where she left him. She thinks she recognizes that voice. And she is right. It is him; her ‘unconcealed desire’.

“She smiles”, he declares, holding his hand over his chest in that way that reveals how relieved he is that she welcomes him this time. … More The fish who loved a bird

Managing Love’s Expectations

The problem with expectations is that they’re just like an opinion. Everyone has one and they don’t always match up to the other person’s thoughts. This is the main cause of conflicts and issues in a relationship.

Fortunately, there is a solution! When our focus is on our differences in expectations, rather than our appreciation for the things the other person does right, conflict is always inevitable. The way any two people decide to show love, for instance, will probably differ but does that make one of the ways wrong? Expectations with no appreciation leads to nagging, which leads to frustration. … More Managing Love’s Expectations

As she drives further away from the stranger, nothing else comes to mind but the face of the one whom she left behind. The only one who has touched a part of her that she’s struggled to ignore. It will be the first time, since Uni, that someone would utter such blatant words of desire to her. And although she doesn’t even know anything about him, she had been quick to jump to the conclusion that he is not her type. Then she scuffs.

“What’s my type anyway if I’ve never had options?” she asks herself.

Then suddenly she turns, though she couldn’t say why. Back to the spot where she left him. … More The fish who loved a bird

Women have been told they are their man’s better half. But what does that really mean?

I was watching Laura Ikeji’s dance post on Instagram the other day and my thoughts were not coordinated at first. A woman loves to showcase her children and celebrate her love for them, regardless of the amazing love she had or has for her husband from the beginning of their relationship. So if the woman is celebrating herself and her children, who is celebrating the husband? … More Women have been told they are their man’s better half. But what does that really mean?

What’s your limit in marriage?

I was following a story on social media a while back. It was a sorry case with this less than a day old married couple. When they started dating, it was a case of no intimacy until marriage – the woman insisted and the man willingly accepted. On the night of the wedding when all he wanted to do was unwrap his lovely lady, he discovered something rather unforgivable. His wife had another man’s entire body tattooed on hers’. Like literally his whole body and the penis was almost in her ‘vijayjay’. It was too much for him to even understand. She tried to excuse herself but eventually, it turned out that it was the image of her ex who at some point she thought she had to tattoo on her body just to prove her loyalty to him. Eventually, they didn’t end up together. The unveiling of the wedding night never took place and her husband was ready to give it all up. It wasn’t worth it, he concluded. It was too big a reminder for every time he would look at her.   … More What’s your limit in marriage?
