Just like Beauty & The Beast

When I rested in your branches,

A little rest, I thought,

But I’ve been held here still.

Caught in your web,

Got me feeling like Beauty with the Beast.

Be my Prince Charming, I thought,

And one day more magical than the next.

Your tricks got me lost in the beauty of your palace. … More Just like Beauty & The Beast

‘Should I love or should I leave?’

The ‘Should I stay or should I go?’ ‘Should I love or should I leave?’ questions become too hard to answer. In the process, they end up holding on for far longer than they should. But braving something that is consistently hurting us and destroying our potential to be happy is not only unhealthy but self-destructive.

So how do you know if you’re holding on to a relationship that is toxic? How do you take that final call? How do you know when it’s time to let go? … More ‘Should I love or should I leave?’

What’s your limit in marriage?

I was following a story on social media a while back. It was a sorry case with this less than a day old married couple. When they started dating, it was a case of no intimacy until marriage – the woman insisted and the man willingly accepted. On the night of the wedding when all he wanted to do was unwrap his lovely lady, he discovered something rather unforgivable. His wife had another man’s entire body tattooed on hers’. Like literally his whole body and the penis was almost in her ‘vijayjay’. It was too much for him to even understand. She tried to excuse herself but eventually, it turned out that it was the image of her ex who at some point she thought she had to tattoo on her body just to prove her loyalty to him. Eventually, they didn’t end up together. The unveiling of the wedding night never took place and her husband was ready to give it all up. It wasn’t worth it, he concluded. It was too big a reminder for every time he would look at her.   … More What’s your limit in marriage?

My Love’s Beloved

Come, let’s celebrate the sanctity of love

Here she comes, looking like a goddess

My love’s innocent beloved

She appears at my door like full moon

Come, let’s forget our differences and celebrate what binds us together

Your love has caused me pain

Like a dagger through my heart

But maybe that’s my destiny

To love a man who can never belong completely to either one of us

But we can at least hope together

While we celebrate the sanctity of the love we have. … More My Love’s Beloved

Move over, there’s a new Sheriff in town!

I might not be a serial victim of breakups but I find that anytime I need to wear a different personality, I go for a change of hairdo. So maybe typically for blacks, we don’t have the luxury of cutting out hair at will for fear of slow growth but trust me, there’s a younger, better and more refreshing feeling it gives on the inside. I have cut while it was at its prime once and it felt so good. … More Move over, there’s a new Sheriff in town!

It’s time to say goodbye

Quitters don’t win and winners don’t quit, at least that’s what they say. So whenever I get discouraged, I look for that one excuse to hold on, hoping that perhaps there’s something there that will be worth my effort and steadfastness at the end of the day. A lot of pictorial messages say “it will end in praise” but does every story end in praise though? I suppose it depends on the perspective in which you look at it. Just because it hurts when it ends doesn’t mean it’s not for good eventually. Such is the situation when you’re convinced within yourself that it is time to move on in that draining relationship and say goodbye! … More It’s time to say goodbye

Part 20: Cry me a river

It was morning yet the skies were as dark as the night. With so many relatives and friends in the house to comfort Mother on the loss of her husband, the house too seemed too quiet for comfort. Just two weeks ago, the same people had gathered at our house to mourn my brother, ejire mi. Now, they are gathered to mourn my father and tomorrow? Only because the Doctor assured Mother I could live a healthy life if treatment and medications were taken seriously, I wanted to believe I would live to bury my mother. For all it is worth, I want to see her smile again.  … More Part 20: Cry me a river
