This should be an interesting topic to deliberate upon and it is, especially in a world where women now strive to be equal achievers with men. However, as women, we must understand that whatever we consider as issues starts from the mind. There are issues all around us if we choose to see life from that perspective but I know definitely that a better outlook to life and dreams is perhaps to see every obstacle as a challenge. I remember always wishing for more challenging tasks in my jobs and I remember a colleague telling me to be careful what I wish for. In all the busy schedules and activities now, I have learnt a vital lesson – taking ownership of my life.
Imagine being faced with an issue. The look on your face, your mood, thoughts, etc. Now imagine being faced with a challenge. All you want to do is scale through, overcome unto the next level. That’s exactly how we ought to see whatever issues that we face as women. However, there are seemingly unavoidable issues affecting women empowerment in our society that I’d like to address in order to encourage a woman be more of herself than her fears. Many obvious gaps remain in protecting women’s human rights and in empowering their rightful role in development, peace and security. Addressing the issues affecting women in our society, the intent is to eradicate all fears and encourage each women to be empowered by contributing to a world in which women are safe from violence and are free to exercise their full and equal human rights. It will be a world changing experience to build a strong and vibrant movement of women who are empowered individually and collectively to challenge the norms and tackle the root causes of inequality.
For some reason, men are more inclined to take risks than women. Women want safety and security which are not exactly at per with taking risks. To be empowered is to be totally free from doubt and fear. To be empowered is to launch into the deep, knowing there will be several unknowns but you are excited to overcome every challenge to hit the treasures and even failures that lay within just to hit the jackpot. To be an empowered woman, above all, isn’t depending on what someone else can do for you but what you can make of yourself, what you can make of your talents and how you can make the world reckon with you. Some men are often afraid of the power of an empowered woman so they will attempt to bring her down at every given opportunity. After all, women are to be submissive, not empowered.
This gives rise to the seemingly increasing abnormality in our society as it concerns patterns of violence and exploitation that disrupt women’s lives and focus. To correct this abnormality, services and series of counselling sessions will be in place to correct and help women recover from the trauma of violence and rebuild their lives
Despite apparent legal protection for women in the Federal Constitution, this protection can be manipulated by gender-biased laws. In my part of the world, women do not feel protected by law in human rights, child welfare and property should in case any unpleasant situations unfold in their marriage. This is why you’ll find more women living in a hateful hurtful marriage than call their husband’s bluff and move on to a better, more respectful life, not necessarily another man.
The empowerment of women is a highly important end in itself. It is essential for the achievement of sustainable development. The full participation and partnership of both women and men is required in productive and reproductive life. In all parts of the world, women are facing threats to their lives, health and well- being as a result of being overburdened with work and of their lack of power and influence. In addition, improving the status of women also enhances their decision-making capacity at all levels in all spheres of life, especially in the area of sexuality and reproduction. This, in turn, is essential for the long-term success of a productive population. Research shows that population development are attained when deliberate progressive steps are taken to improve the status of women in the society.
I believe the Government can help make women feel safer and more empowered with freedom to human rights to accelerate women’s equal participation and equitable representation at all levels in the society. We all have the responsibility to eliminate attitudes and practices that discriminate against and subordinate girls and women in the society more importantly for the benefit of a developed and productive population. No woman power is a loss, I don’t know how else you want to think about that.
