I’ve made unintended acquaintances
Who have become of more consequence than friends,
Having more to offer and exchange in return.
Drawing me closer to an expected end.
I have friends whom although we barely see
When we do, we pick up right where we left off.
And the times spent together are more beautiful than when we first met
I’ve met people with whom our knowing each other is mutually restricted
With work, on a project, or on assignment.
Either way, I know where I stand in every people engagement.
You tell me this and tell me that,
Things an acquaintance shouldn’t say to me
Things a friend shouldn’t say to me
Things a colleague shouldn’t say to me.
You are neither an acquaintance nor a friend nor a colleague.
Who are you?
What do you want from me?
